The statistician for the Moorpark College women’s basketball team is David Palmquist, a Lutheran minister.

Palmquist has been following the career of his daughter, Trisha, through L.A. Baptist High and Moorpark, giving fatherly advise whenever necessary.

During games, the instruction tended to be vociferous and became a distraction for Trisha, a starting forward for the Raiders.

“That’s when I volunteered to do the team’s stats,” said Palmquist, the pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran in North Hollywood. “I figured I’d be too busy doing other stuff to be vocal, but I’d still be able to watch Trisha play. It seemed like the perfect solution.”

Palmquist didn’t yell--didn’t even speak--but still managed to draw unwanted attention when an official failed to call a foul on a play involving Trisha.

“I slammed my clipboard down on the table, and you could hear the sound all over the building,” said Palmquist, who received a technical. “It was embarrassing.”

Double loss: The Ventura College men’s and women’s track and field teams will be without the expected services of quarter-miler Ramsey Jay and shotputter Dolores Tuimoloau.

Jay, who attended USC as a freshman before transferring to Ventura over the summer, has transferred to Fresno State.

Tuimoloau, runner-up in the women’s shotput in the state junior college championships last year, is academically ineligible for the second time in three years.
