Yankee Fan Gives Dodger Fans Warning
As a New Yorker and a Yankee fan, the pending sale of the Dodgers has caused me some concern. The Dodgers have long symbolized a great baseball tradition, both in the performance of the club and in the administration of the franchise. While you might expect this to be the case with the Yankees, I assure you it is hardly so.
Under the current ownership, Yankee Stadium has become one huge billboard, complete with rotating signs, in-your-face blaring commercials and a steady decrease in the quality of the overall experience. This once-proud franchise now relies on gimmicks (tape of glass smashing during foul balls, etc.) and nonstop advertising to “entertain” the crowd.
I feel the need to alert you that an effort must be made to save the Dodgers from this fate. To date, your franchise has been largely spared these intrusions. Should ownership pass to a Steinbrenner-like entity (i.e., Rupert Murdoch), the Dodger franchise will quite likely follow the downward spiral of the Yankees.
