Mussina Gets $6,825,000 to Hold Him Over
Pitcher Mike Mussina agreed to a one-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles worth $6,825,000 while continuing to negotiate a multiyear deal.
Baltimore has offered him a $21.55-million, three-year contract with an option for a fourth year. Mussina wants a four- to five-year deal at $7 million a season.

Seattle pitcher Randy Johnson, a four-time AL strikeout leader who was sidelined much of last season because of a bulging disk in his back, is up and throwing and says his arm feels fine in the Mariner camp in Peoria, Ariz. . . . Detroit Tiger Manager Buddy Bell will miss part of spring training while his wife undergoes treatment for cancer of the tonsil. Doctors have said Gloria Bell’s prognosis is good.
