Spotlight: Californians Are Staying Put

Share

For the first time in five years, Californians seemed to be staying put in 1996. According to an annual survey of household goods shipments to and from states by Atlas Van Lines, California had 19% fewer moves out of the state in 1996 than the year before. About as many people moved to the state as left, the company said. “People go where the jobs are,” said Steve Mumma, an Atlas spokesman. “The number of people staying in California may be related to the technology boom.”
