Time Sticks

Time deZign clocks are 3 1/2 inches square and an inch thick and come in scores of designs: animals, flowers, cartoons, sports, and, yes, food. The unique thing about them is a magnetized backing, so you can stick them to any metallic surface. They seem custom-made for putting the time on your refrigerator, particularly in the carrot or coffee designs. Quartz movement, powered by AA battery.

Her Spicy Charms

New York-born designer Riva Weinstein makes these quaint Spice of Life designs, each unique, out of perfume vials of herbs and spices, cinnamon sticks and tiny kitchen utensil charms. Some are pins for wearing and others are magnets for sticking up. She also makes kitchen mezuza magnets based on the traditional Jewish good-luck gifts: sugar, salt, spice and a coin. A portion of her proceeds is donated to LA Goal, which helps adults with developmental problems.

Available Sundays from Riva, a craft vendor at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market. Also available at the Craft and Folk Art Museum Store and Tony Mack’s in Los Angeles.

Chiparrones

And you thought there were no new wrinkles in the potato chip. A company called Wacky Snacks makes thickish chips from potatoes and rice, fried in canola oil, that come out quite a bit like chicharrones or pork rinds (they’re called Potato Rinds). They come in three flavors: Barbecue, Hot and Spicy and the somewhat absurd Cinnamon Sugar Churro Potato Rinds, for those who’ve always dreamed of a pork rind dessert.

At supermarkets.
