Pepperdine Gets Boxed Out, 56-46
Mark Nees scored all seven of San Francisco’s points during a decisive second-half stretch and the Dons held off Pepperdine, 56-46, Thursday night for their fifth consecutive home victory.
San Francisco (13-12, 8-5 in the West Coast Conference) held Pepperdine (6-19, 4-9) without an offensive rebound. The Dons scored 15 second-chance points.
Nees’ consecutive put-back baskets gave the Dons a 45-35 lead, their biggest of the game, with 9:14 to play. When the Waves outscored the Dons, 11-3, in the next six minutes, Nees scored all three for the Dons.
Khary Harvey’s two free throws brought Pepperdine to within 48-46 with 3:45 to play but the Waves were shut out the rest of the way. They missed seven shots down the stretch. Jamal Cobbs started and ended a game-ending 8-0 run for the Dons.
San Francisco was led by former Ventura College standouts Hakeem Ward, who scored 14 points, and Damian Cantrell, who had nine points and nine rebounds.
Bryan Hill topped Pepperdine with 13 points.
The first half ended on a three-point basket by Tommie Prince that gave Pepperdine a 26-24 lead.
Pepperdine dropped to 1-12 on the road.
