Ferraro Would Not Protest Being Traded

Since being acquired last March in a trade from the contending New York Rangers, center Ray Ferraro has made the most of playing for a losing team. He has missed only one game and leads the team with 19 goals. But would he protest if traded before the March 18 deadline?

“I’ve told [Coach] Larry [Robinson] this, too, and that is that my dream is to still win a Stanley Cup,” said Ferraro, 32. “If everything that is happening here is pointing to four or five years [and not next season], then all I am is kind of a caretaker right now. I’ll be gone by the time that happens.

Robinson said that he and Ferraro have talked often this season.

“As far as I’m concerned, I love having Ray here,” Robinson said. “There’s not a guy on the team who wants to win more. The only way we would [trade Ferraro] is because it would make us better.
