Health Officials Issue Rain Runoff Warning

Share

Bacteria levels dangerous to swimmers can occur in the ocean near storm drains and at creek or river outlets for as long as three days after a rainstorm, officials of the Environmental Health Division of the Orange County Health Care Agency reminded the public this week.

Swimmers should avoid water near any discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers, or any runoff on the beach, officials said, especially after a rain.

The drains, creeks and rivers carry flood waters and urban runoff--which can include bacteria from animal waste or decomposing plants--and dump it in the ocean.
