Retired Teacher Appointed to Board
David Giese, a retired teacher who was runner-up in the November election for the Cypress School District board, has been appointed to a vacancy on the panel and is to be sworn in at a special trustees meeting March 4.
Giese will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Rick Gaede, a hotel executive who narrowly defeated Giese in the Nov. 5 election. Gaede resigned Feb. 4 because of work and schedule conflicts.
School district Supt. William Eller said Giese will serve until the next school board election in November 1998. Giese can be a candidate in 1998 if he chooses to run for the final two years of Gaede’s four-year term.
The school board voted unanimously to appoint Giese rather than call a special election, which would have cost the district about $45,000.
