Benefit Dance Will Feature ‘50s Music

Share

Tunes from Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bobby Darin and others will highlight the seventh annual Therapeutic Dance for individuals with disabilities Saturday.

A disc jockey will be situated in the middle of a giant replica of a ’57 Chevy playing ‘50s music. The dance is open to participants ages 13 and up.

“And there will be a live Elvis because no Fabulous ‘50s dance would be complete without one,” said Steve Cragle of the city manager’s office.

In addition to music and dancing, there will be an animal performance, balloon art, “goodie” bags and refreshments.

“The population that we’re serving is a very unique and special population,” Cragle said. “And there really aren’t any other events that directly address their needs. Everyone looks forward to it all year-round.”

Besides getting a great workout, everyone can leave with a balloon sculpture and a prize, Cragle said.

Last year, nearly 400 people attended the event, which is hosted by the Thousand Oaks Youth Commission.

The dance will be from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Teen Center, 1375 E. Janss Road.

Admission is $3, but scholarships are available for those unable to pay. All proceeds will be used to fund future Therapeutic Dances.
