No Medication for Zmolek

Share

The return of defenseman Doug Zmolek for the last two games has been overshadowed by the Kings’ five-game win streak. Zmolek, who missed five games because of an irregular heartbeat, has played without being on any medication after his heart was electronically regulated for the second time within a month on Feb. 18.

“I feel good now, but it took me a week to recover,” said Zmolek, who has had this problem three times in his five-year NHL career and has been placed on a mineral diet by team doctors. “They don’t really know what happened, but it isn’t considered life threatening. Right now, we’re just trying to stay away from medication. It’s up to me to know when [his heart] is irregular.”

The league will decide today if King forward Dimitri Khristich, who was ejected for slashing Vancouver’s Scott Walker on Saturday, will be suspended. . . . Defenseman Sean O’Donnell is doubtful for tonight’s game at Edmonton because of a back injury. . . . Forward Kevin Stevens practiced with the team on Monday but is also doubtful tonight because of an injured ankle.
