Home Savings

If you’re on the lookout for savings in home furnishings, here’s a source to add to the list--Home Settings Furniture Outlet.

The inventory in this large warehouse is a combination of distressed, sample and close-out merchandise plus stock overruns from various manufacturers throughout the United States. There seems to be more contemporary designs than traditional, and the quality is certainly better than the average discounter.

By comparison shopping the prices at Home Settings with four reasonably priced furniture giants in Southern California, there were some pretty good savings. A queen-size iron bed that sells at one retailer for $699 was tagged here at $472.50, while an accompanying iron bench showed a savings of $123.

A wicker and iron table with two chairs for which one large importer asks $400, can be purchased at Home Settings for $330. The ever-popular pine armoire is priced reasonably at many stores around town, but we liked the $473 price here, which represented a savings of $226 from the Swedish furnishings giant.

If you’re looking for a formal, traditional dining set, a cherry finish group of eight pieces (table, six chairs and a china cabinet) from Universal brings $3,229.96 from one major Southern California store, while the tag here was $1,997 for a savings of $1,232.96. Not bad. For a more contemporary dining room, also from Universal, there’s the white-washed look for $2,450, while other retailers ask $3,200.

Home Settings was opened a year ago by Tamar Kevonian, whose father had many connections in the furniture industry. When she started to furnish a new home, she was concerned at the high price of quality home furnishings so she tapped into her father’s sources in an effort to bring quality at lower prices to the Southern California marketplace.

The best way to avoid delivery charges is to bring your own truck (the folks here will help you load), but if it’s a simple local delivery that doesn’t require assembly, Home Settings includes it in the price.
