Patrick Roy made a triumphant return to Montreal, making 30 saves as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Montreal Canadiens, 7-3, on Wednesday night.

The three-time Vezina Trophy winner was traded from the Canadiens 15 months ago after a run-in with Montreal Coach Mario Tremblay.

He was given a standing ovation as he entered and exited the ice.

“I really appreciated it,” Roy said of the fans’ support. “All I wanted was for people to remember what I did for Montreal and not for [what happened] Dec. 2.”

In that 1995 game, Roy was pulled after Detroit scored nine goals against him. When he came off the ice he glared at Tremblay for waiting so long to take him out, then he leaned over to team President Ronald Corey and told him he had played his last game for the Canadiens.

Dallas 3, St. Louis 2--Todd Harvey’s goal with 7:53 to play broke a 1-1 tie in Dallas and the Stars beat the Blues for the first time in four games.

Andy Moog stopped 21 shots for his 353rd victory, the most among active goaltenders.
