Net result is bad: Forgive Agoura baseball Coach Bruce Beck if his disposition is overcast these days.

The Chargers raised about $18,000 in the past month to refurbish their infield and purchase a collapsible batting cage and other equipment. Key to those efforts was a Feb. 7 banquet with Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants as guest speaker.

Recently, vandals damaged the infield by driving cars across it and stripped the batting cage netting.

“We’ve worked so hard to get quality things and to improve the program,” said Beck, who inherits a team that was 6-18 last season. “Then in 15 minutes, some schmucks bring us down.”

Beck said sheriffs will keep a tighter eye on the field and funds will be found for new netting.
