Shots on Goal Taking a Toll

Share

One reason why the Kings are currently not among the top eight teams for the Western Conference playoffs has been the high number of shots on goals they have faced.

King goaltenders have faced an average of 34 per game with only Montreal having faced more. In contrast, the Detroit Red Wings entered Monday night’s game against the Kings averaging only 25 a game, among the best in the league.

Detroit outshot the Kings 43-26. Opponents have taken 161 shots in the past four games.

Center Eddie Olczyk’s second-period goal against the Red Wings was his 21st of the season and extended his consecutive point streak to nine games, the longest current streak in the league.

Forward Kevin Stevens, who had missed seven games because of an ankle injury, returned to the lineup for the first time since Feb. 20. Stevens was lined with Olczyk and Kai Nurminen, who also returned after being benched for two games.
