BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Mater Dei (31-2) hosts Los Angeles Westchester (23-8) tonight in the semifinals of the Southern California Regional Division I Championships at Ocean View High. It will be a rematch of the Tournament of Champions final, held at Ocean View in December, and won by Mater Dei, 71-63. Westchester, the City Section runner-up, defeated Vista Rancho Buena Vista, 66-63, and Mater Dei, the Southern Section Division I-A champion, defeated Fontana Miller, 83-74, in the opening round.

If Mater Dei wins, it most likely will play Los Angeles City Section champion L.A. Crenshaw. The Cougars (24-3), who beat Mater Dei in last year’s regional final, are defending state champions. They host Central Section champion Clovis West (25-6) tonight.

In a Division II semifinal, Woodbridge (28-3), the Southern Section Division II-AA champion, plays at Compton Dominguez (26-5), the Southern Section Division II-A champion. In the state Division IV, Calvary Chapel (26-5) travels to Central Section champion Bakersfield Garces (25-6).

Tonight’s games start at 7:30 p.m. The winners advance to the Southern California Regional finals Saturday at the Pond.
