If Adrian Perry’s band, which plays the Roxy on March 28, gets a record contract, it will hardly be a novelty. In fact, there seems to be a rash of recent rocker-progeny signings.

Elektra, which last year released a debut album from Nancy Boy, a band that includes Donovan’s son Donovan Leitch, is about to release the debut by Goth-rock group Deadsy, featuring Elijah Blue Allman, the son of Cher and Gregg Allman. Atlantic has an album in the works from Steven Stills’ son, Chris Stills. Tal Bachman, son of Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s Randy Bachman, just signed with Columbia Records, which also recently got Leonard Cohen’s son Adam and also has Tim Buckley’s son Jeff. Rufus Wainwright, son of folkies Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, is recording his debut for DreamWorks.

All of them face the possibility of being overshadowed by their parents, but they can take heart from one shining example: Bob Dylan’s son Jakob Dylan, whose band the Wallflowers has blossomed into a real success story.

“Being Bob Dylan’s son was a blessing and a curse,” says Capitol’s Buie. “When he was first gigging around town, there was a natural curiosity. But he was still developing as a songwriter and was put under the magnifying glass. But he was able to mature and grow and now he’s succeeding on his own merit.”
