Duck update--Today’s game is crucial for their playoff prospects, since eighth-place Calgary is only one point behind the seventh-place Ducks despite the Ducks’ franchise-record 10-game unbeaten streak. The Flames have won three of four games between the teams this season--holding the Ducks to one goal three times--but were beaten badly once, in a 7-0 loss Dec. 20. Friday’s 4-4 tie against St. Louis marked only the second time in 10 games goalie Guy Hebert has given up more than two goals.

Flame update--They’ve reached the final game of a grueling seven-game, 15-day trip in decent shape, with a 3-3 record after beating the Kings, 5-2, Saturday at the Forum. That’s their toughest stretch the rest of the way, since they return to Calgary for seven of their final 10. Strong defense has been especially important because Theoren Fleury is cold, with four goals in his last 24 games.
