Investigators Probe Valley Man’s Bludgeoning Death

Los Angeles homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man found bludgeoned to death in his garage.

The body of Khachatur Aladzhyan, 55, was found by his son about 12:30 Tuesday, said LAPD Det. Mike Coffey of the North Hollywood Division.

“He was backing his car into the garage and felt something,” Coffey said. “When he looked, he saw his father covered in blood.”

Coffey said the retired man was last seen alive at 7 a.m. by his family. He lived in the house with two sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. No one was home all morning, police said.

The house appeared to be “slightly ransacked,” Coffey said.

Coffey said he did not know how Aladzhyan was killed, except that he was bludgeoned with an unknown object. An autopsy was pending, coroner’s officials said.

Detectives had few clues and no suspects.

“We don’t know if he surprised a burglar or if a burglar surprised him,” Coffey said.

The man typically spent his time tending his garden and clipping flowers, police said.

Neighbors have told police they didn’t hear anything unusual from the home all morning. The children were at a baby sitter’s home when their grandfather was killed, police said.
