Summer’s Grip on Spring May Be Broken

Share

The first day of spring felt as though Orange County had skipped a season and gone right into summer.

Temperatures soared into the 90s in most areas for the second day in a row.

San Juan Capistrano was the county’s hottest spot at 92 degrees.

Santa Ana reached 91 degrees, surpassing its previous record high for the date of 88 degrees in 1990. The normal mark is 70 degrees, according to John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts to The Times.

The mercury in Anaheim also reached 91 degrees.

Things were a good bit cooler at the beach, though still well above normal. In Newport Beach, the temperature rose to 76, up 12 degrees from the normal high of 64.

Relief seems near.

High temperatures today are expected to be in the 70s and 80s, with partly cloudy skies, Sherwin said.

The cooling off is expected to continue through the weekend, with more normal highs in the 60s and 70s.
