Rincon Valley Makes Its Point With a Rout
Point guard Erin Buescher had 25 points and 25 rebounds to lead Santa Rosa Rincon Valley to a 53-38 victory over El Cajon Christian in the Division V girls’ state championship game Friday afternoon at the Pond.
Buescher, a 6-foot-2 senior, also had four blocks, three steals and three assists as she physically dominated a smaller El Cajon Christian team. Her 25 rebounds smashed the record for rebounds in a Division V title game by 10.
Rincon Valley’s state title was its first. El Cajon Christian, which was outrebounded by 19 and shot 24% from the field, has been to the state final six times and won in 1992 and 1995.
El Cajon Christian center Alyssa Fredrick scored 17 points but made only seven of 23 shots.
