In the Footsteps of ‘Che’ Guevara

A group of Bolivian capitalists have come up with a plan to profit from the memory of one of socialism’s most popular figures: Cuban revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara.

Three travel agencies, working with the Bolivian government, offer guided tours based on the final campaign of Guevara, who was trapped and killed in central Bolivia nearly 30 years ago while leading a guerrilla band.

The three-, five- and six-day tours cover up to 600 miles, departing from Sucre, capital of Chuquisaca state, and wind through the countryside to Vallegrande, where Guevara was reportedly buried in October 1967. Stops include the house where his girlfriend “Inti” Peredo lived and the barracks where Bolivian troops are said to have killed a member of his group.
