James Collins matched his career-high with 29 points, Kerry Thompson added 20 and Florida State advanced to its first NIT final Tuesday night with a 71-65 overtime victory over Connecticut at New York City.

Thompson, a junior playing despite a dislocated finger, made a three-point shot with 3.9 seconds left in regulation to tie the score, 59-59, and force overtime.

Richard Hamilton’s jumper 23 seconds into overtime put the Huskies (17-15) up, 61-59, before Collins’ three-pointer gave the Seminoles the lead for good.

It was their third victory over a Big East opponent in the tournament for the Seminoles (20-11).

Michigan 77, Arkansas 62--Maurice Taylor scored 19 points and had 15 rebounds for Michigan, which won its sixth consecutive game to reach the NIT final.

Louis Bullock and Jerod Ward each added 15 points for the Wolverines (23-11).

Kareem Reid scored 19 for the Razorbacks (18-13) and Pat Bradley added 10 points.

Michigan had trouble putting away the undersized Razorbacks, who trailed, 63-58, with 3:57 left.
