Selanne’s Return Is Possible Tonight

Share

Teemu Selanne hopes he can return to the lineup tonight against Chicago after missing two games because of a strained muscle in his left side.

His absence has cost the Ducks ground in the Western Conference playoff race--they’re 0-2 without him. It also set Selanne back in his pursuit of Mario Lemieux in the NHL scoring race.

‘I think he should be No. 1,” said Selanne, who got an autographed stick from Lemieux before the season after he heard it probably would be Lemieux’s last.

Who will Coach Ron Wilson start in goal tonight against Chicago?

Guy Hebert has started 42 of the last 43 games and been the backbone of the Ducks’ hot streak, but has looked tired lately. Mikhail Shtalenkov is rested and has played well in relief twice in the last three games, but hasn’t started since Feb. 4. Both have shut out the Blackhawks this season.

The Ducks recalled left wing Mike Leclerc from the Baltimore Bandits. Leclerc, 20, who scored 56 points in 71 games with Baltimore this season, was selected in the third round of the 1995 NHL entry draft. He is expected to join the Ducks immediately.
