‘Stand and Deliver’ Star to Give Lecture

Actor Edward James Olmos, who has starred in films including “Stand and Deliver” and “Selena,” will be a guest lecturer Thursday at Chapman University.
Students and administrators wanted Olmos to be part of the Distinguished Lecture Series because he is active in political and humanitarian causes, said Natalie Schonfeld, Chapman’s associate director of student activities.
“The student committee thought that he would deliver a powerful and moving message that would be meaningful to the student body because he’s so multidimensional,” Schonfeld said.
Olmos represents UNICEF and is a national spokesman for the AIDS Awareness Foundation, among other activities.
He will discuss the needs and challenges of a multicultural society, said university spokesman Ruth Wardwell.
The talk begins at 8 p.m. in the Chapman Auditorium at 333 N. Glassell St. Admission is free.
