Group to Address Quake Insurance

Share

CARe Inc., the nonprofit earthquake assistance volunteer group, will meet tonight to discuss the quake insurance policies offered by the new California Earthquake Authority.

CARe will also offer advice to homeowners who had property damage from the 1994 Northridge earthquake and remain unhappy over how insurance companies handled their claims.

George Kehrer, a founder of CARe, said some insurance companies, including State Farm, have been willing to reopen some Northridge quake claims. Those homeowners with quake policies who contacted their insurance companies within a year of the Northridge quake have the best chance to get their claim reopened, he said.

Hidden damage from earthquakes is commonplace, and discovering a temblor’s full toll often takes a long time, he said.

The CARe meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Northridge Methodist Church, 9650 Reseda Blvd. For more information, call CARe at (818) 363-3062.
