Wind-driven flames swept through a single-family dwelling Wednesday morning, causing extensive damage, but the woman who lived there was uninjured, authorities said.

The fire broke out about 8:30 a.m. in a house in the 12100 block of Claretta Street, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It took 20 firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the flames, which began in the house and swept through the attic and garage before burning off the vegetation in the front yard, authorities said.

The fire caused $100,000 in damage to the structure and $60,000 to the contents, according to authorities.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The victim’s name was not available.

“She was very fortunate to escape unharmed,” Humphrey said.
