Zelia “Zee” Morris, a 34-year resident of Thousand Oaks, has died after a lengthy illness. She was 79.

Morris, who was born March 10, 1918, in Paris, Texas, moved to Los Angeles with her mother in 1921.

The family settled in Beverly Hills, and Morris later was one of the few women to attend UCLA during the 1930s. She graduated in 1939, and 10 years later married Robert Morris, who she met at UCLA.

The Morrises moved to Thousand Oaks in 1963. Robert Morris died in 1967, leaving Zee Morris to raise their two children alone.

She took up golf and joined the Thousand Oaks Women’s Club, where she served as president.

She was an avid cook who also enjoyed playing bridge.

“She had a good sense of humor and was quite intelligent,” said her son, Jeff Morris of Thousand Oaks. “She was very strict, but now I am grateful for that.”

In addition to her son, Morris is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Willis of Coos Bay, Ore., and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Islands at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn.

Arrangements are being handled by Conejo Mountain Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
