Daigneault Streak Followed Suspension

Since returning from his 10-game suspension, J.J. Daigneault had at least one point in every game until Wednesday, with two goals and nine points over seven games.

That seven-game point streak is the longest by a defenseman in team history.

It was only coincidence that referee Don Koharski called Wednesday’s game against the Sharks, his first assignment on a Duck game since Feb. 23, when Daigneault was thrown out of the game for swinging his stick at Koharski. The incident lead to Daigneault’s suspension for abuse of an official even though Daigneault insisted he never meant to hit the referee.

The Ducks are 3-0-13 in overtime games and one of only two NHL teams that hasn’t lost in overtime this season. The New York Rangers (3-0-10) is the other. . . . The surging Duck power play was tied for eighth-best in the NHL at 17.4% before Wednesday’s games. . . . Teemu Selanne wasn’t playing with a full deck during last week’s road trip: General Manager Jack Ferreira swiped the aces from the deck that Selanne and Joe Sacco used were using to play gin. “It took them about an hour and a half to notice,” Ferreira said. . . . The Ducks are close to signing center Matt Cullen, a St. Cloud State sophomore who was their second-round pick last June. They plan to assign him to their minor league affiliate Br the final few games of the American League season. He’s expected to start next season in the minors as well.
