Minor ‘June Gloom’ Forecast for Week

Share

The San Fernando Valley can expect cool and pleasant weather this week, without the drizzle that a low-pressure system brought to some areas over the weekend.

Most days this week will have early-morning low clouds and fog that will burn off by midday, said Bruce Rockwell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. The morning fog will be similar to the “June gloom” that regularly visits the area during that month, but not as intense, Rockwell said.

The low-pressure system that brought the drizzle has been pushed out by a high-pressure system that should usher in more pleasant weather. Aside from the fog, Valley residents can expect light sea breezes in the late afternoons and early evenings this week, Rockwell said.

“I don’t see any major events coming, at least not for the next four or five days,” Rockwell said. No rain is expected either.

Rainfall this year is now just slightly behind normal levels. Since July 1, the Los Angeles area has had 12.39 inches of rain, compared to the normal rainfall of 13.84 inches.

In Burbank today, the high temperature is expected to be 72. Woodland Hills is expected to reach 73. Highs this week will mostly be in the 70s with a slight warming trend as the week progresses, Rockwell said. Lows will be in the 50s.
