Boxer Injured at Pond Released From the Hospital
Boxer Bernard Harris, who collapsed after being stopped by junior lightweight Carlos Hernandez of Bellflower in the eighth round of Monday’s main event fight at the Pond, was released Tuesday afternoon from UCI Medical Center in Orange, according to hospital representative Pat Jacobs.
Harris, who is from Detroit, lost for the first time in 12 professional bouts, when his manager, Jackie Kallen, threw in the towel midway through the eighth round.
Harris, 23, then knelt down in the ring and fell over backward. He was unconscious about 10 minutes and was taken to UCI Medical Center, where he spent the night after undergoing a CAT scan.
