Woman Sues Company That Allegedly Hired Hit Man

A San Clemente woman who police allege was once the target of a contract killing by the owner of Premium Commercial Services Corp. has again sued that company.

The ongoing legal wrangling between Margaret Wengert and the Huntington Beach company took another twist this week when she filed a lawsuit alleging that it had fraudulently foreclosed on her Fountain Valley home.

In 1994, Premium Commercial alleged that Wengert and her husband James owed about $400,000 on their home. Margaret Wengert sued the company the next year for trying to seize their home over the debt. That lawsuit, authorities allege, prompted Coleman Allen, the late owner of Premium Commercial, to hire a hit man to kill James Wengert, 48.

He was shot on April 10, 1996, and suffered a broken jaw and five shattered teeth. Three days later, Fountain Valley flight attendant Jane Carver, 46, was shot to death in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity, with Margaret Wengert the intended target.

The suit filed Wednesday by Margaret Wengert alleges Premium Commercial overstated the couple’s debt and wrongfully took away their home. The suit seeks $135,000 and other amounts to be determined in trial for punitive and emotional damages.
