TONDAY’S GAME

ANGELS’ MARK GUBICZA (0-0, 17.18 ERA) vs. INDIANS’ CHAD OGEA

(1-0, 4.50)

* Update--Gubicza, today’s starting pitcher, sat out 2 1/2 weeks of spring training because of a sore shoulder and is still on a pitch limit. He failed to protect a 7-1 lead over Cleveland in his first start, giving up six hits, seven runs and walking three batters in 3 2/3 innings. In his 1997 debut, Ogea gave up two first-inning runs to the Angels, but gave up only one earned run over the next five innings to get the victory. Gary DiSarcina, the No. 9 hitter in the Angel lineup, has seven hits in his last 13 at-bats and has driven in four runs in the last two games. The weather could be a factor today; the forecast is for rain with temperatures in the low 40s. This is the home opener for the Indians, who had planned to give away free baseballs to fans. But at the request of the commissioner’s office, the Indians will instead give out coupons redeemable for baseballs away from the park. Games in Milwaukee and Kansas City were delayed Monday when fans threw souvenir balls on to the field.

* Saturday, 10 a.m.--Mark Langston (0-1, 3.00) vs. Jack McDowell (0-0, 12.60), KTZN (710).

* Sunday, 10 a.m.--Jason Dickson (1-0, 4.05) vs. Charles Nagy (1-0, 5.25), KTZN (710).
