Trinity College Moves to Gain Needed Space

Share

To accommodate its continuing growth, Trinity College of Graduate Studies has moved to a new, larger campus in Anaheim.

The college, which offers advanced degree programs in psychology and affordable counseling services, started in Anaheim in 1980. Three years later, Trinity moved to Orange and remained there until its recent move back to the city.

“The reason we moved our quarters is we needed more space. . . . We now have room for more students,” said Dr. Eleanor Whipple, Trinity’s president.

A dedication of the new campus at 1661 N. Raymond Ave. will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. The public is invited.

A sculpture of a potter will be dedicated to the memory of Father Lawrence “Marty” Jenco, a Roman Catholic priest who was a member of the college’s Board of Advisors and was awarded an honorary doctorate in 1994. A scholarship fund will be started in memory of Jenco, who was held hostage in Lebanon by Islamic radicals in the mid-1980s and died in 1996.

Donald L. Schnitter, chairman of the college board, said what makes the college different from other institutions is that Trinity integrates Christian principles with psychology.

The college, which also has facilities in Palm Springs and at Mission San Luis Rey near Oceanside, attracts students of all faiths, Schnitter said.

The counseling center’s services are based on ability to pay and are provided by interns with master’s degrees who are supervised by mental health professionals. Trinity also offers certificate courses, such as drug and AIDS counseling, and community outreach services. The Hotline Help Center is also affiliated with the college and has been a “voice of hope” for more than 25 years.

The 24-hour, seven-day-a-week hotline receives more than 2,000 calls a month, answered by about 70 volunteers.
