Anthony Joseph Pinto Sr.; Petroleum Firm Owner

Anthony Joseph Pinto Sr., a petroleum company owner and longtime Ventura County resident, died Wednesday at his home in Ventura following a lengthy illness. He was 73.

Pinto was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Antioch, Calif., and lived in Ventura County for 28 years. He and his wife, Helen, were married in Reno in 1942.

Pinto went to work for Chevron as a deliveryman in 1946. In 1980, when the petroleum company sold off delivery territories to employees, he and his wife purchased a local territory, and formed Pinto Petroleum Inc.

At the time of his death, Pinto was president of the corporation, said his wife, who serves as secretary.

Helen Pinto said her husband was an avid fan of Raiders football, attending home games in Oakland and Los Angeles.

“He had a number of favorite players over the years,” she said. “That’s about all he did was watch football.”

Pinto was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1443 of Oxnard.

In addition to his wife, Pinto is survived by son Anthony Joseph Pinto Jr. of Oxnard; daughters Gloria Terry and Antoinette Moug, both of Ventura; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m., at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, with Msgr. Patrick O’Brien of the San Buenaventura Mission officiating. Burial will follow in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
