The foreign dominance at the Masters continues. Tiger’s certainly not from this world.

I was surprised to see Tiger Woods walk across the bridges at Augusta. I expected to see him walk across the water.

We’ve blown the meaning of Tiger Woods’ victory at the Masters way out of proportion. It was a remarkable sporting accomplishment, but we treated this story as if there had been some major breakthrough for minorities in education, housing and employment.

It may be that Tiger’s intelligence and highly impressive personal abilities are being wasted on playing a game and would be better utilized had be been “programmed” to become a doctor, lawyer, teacher or some other vocation that has redeeming social value and thereby truly advancing the minority cause. Now that would be an important story.

It is unfortunate that The Times’ articles on Tiger Woods and the status of black baseball players try to generate racial controversy where none exists.

Tiger Woods is the world’s best golfer. Period. Defining him by anything other than his talent, hard work and accomplishments is condescending and, in the final analysis, racist.

Boy, I like that Tiger Woods. Not just because he is the first black or the first Thai or the youngest ever or the lowest scorer or all that stuff, but because he is such a complete kid and has his priorities in order.

But I especially like him because he had the courage and integrity and respect for his Green Beret father to turn down Clinton and not let him use this son of a serviceman as another political photo-op. All vets should applaud him.

Tiger Woods’ turn-down of the president’s invitation to appear at Shea Stadium is an insult. If Mr. Clinton, hobbled with crutches, can find time and energy with his numerous commitments, then certainly Mr. Woods could have found the time and graciousness by accepting the request.

Tiger Woods’ victory at the Masters is not entirely about golf. It is also about fathers teaching, loving and caring for their sons.

If our kids could hug us like Tiger hugged his dad, always do what their mama says, and remember to say a prayer for others before a big putt, then golf is more than cool.

Tiger really messed up the racial category in America. Maybe this is the beginning of a colorblind society led by this kid of the privileged new generation.

However, with multimillion-dollar contracts, Tiger, along with Michael Jordan and other celebrities, might start being classified as Nike Americans, Coke Americans or even Toyota Americans.

After reading Randy Harvey’s prediction in The Times before the Masters, I wondered how Tiger could afford to buy that green coat I saw him don Sunday.
