A 32-year-old Venice man, believed to have been driving under the influence, was seriously injured after losing control of his car on Pacific Coast Highway and it landed on the beach, California Highway Patrol officers said Sunday.

Trevor Fay suffered major injuries in the crash, which occurred on a stretch of the highway just north of Deer Creek Road. He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he was reported in stable condition, authorities said.

According to investigators, Fay was traveling north on Pacific Coast Highway when he apparently made an unsafe turn. His 1972 Chevrolet coupe was launched into the air and landed on the beach.

Investigators took a blood-alcohol test and arrested Fay on suspicion of driving under the influence. The results of that test were not available.
