Share

A group of French students attending Del Lago Elementary School this month will be recognized at tonight’s Saddleback Valley Unified School District board meeting.

Trustees will welcome the teachers and 28 elementary students from College Jules Romain in Paris, who have been learning about the United States at Del Lago.

Since arriving April 7, the French students have attended regular classes and worked on their English skills with their new American friends, talked with French-language students at Trabuco Hills High School and visited Disneyland, Mission San Juan Capistrano and other tourist attractions.

The students, who have been housed by Saddleback Valley families during their stay, also plan to see a baseball game at Anaheim Stadium and attend the school district’s outdoor camp before returning home Sunday.

In other action tonight, the board is expected to consider boundary lines for an elementary school under construction at 21001 Rancho Trabuco in Rancho Santa Margarita.

The new school is expected to draw its enrollment from Trabuco Mesa and Cielo Vista elementary schools. Its $7-million campus is designed for 900 students in kindergarten through the sixth grade, but is expected to open in the fall of 1998 with an enrollment of 700.

The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the district office, 25631 Diseno Drive. Information: (714) 586-1234.
