DODGERS’ PEDRO ASTACIO (2-0, 2.25 ERA) vs. CARDINALS’ DONOVAN OSBORNE (0-2, 3.79)

* UPDATE: Los Angeles represents the final stop on a 10,300-mile trip through six time zones for the Cardinals, who will have gone from St. Louis to Florida to Hawaii to Los Angeles before going back to St. Louis. The weary Cardinals, the defending Central Division champions, have been coping with injuries and a struggling offense from the start of a season that began with six consecutive losses. They swept a doubleheader from San Diego in Honolulu on Saturday by scores of 2-1 and 1-0 and have scored two runs or fewer in 12 of 17 games. Only the Chicago Cubs in the National League have scored fewer runs or hit for a lower average than the Cardinals, who have only seven home runs. Donovan Osborne and Todd Stottlemyre, scheduled to start against the Dodgers, each lost to Florida, 2-1, in their last starts. Osborne has been supported with only seven runs in his three starts; Stottlemyre with nine in his four starts. The Cardinals have eight players on the disabled list, among them outfielder Ray Lankford, catcher Tom Pagnozzi and pitchers Andy Benes, Rick Honeycutt, Danny Jackson and Lance Painter. The Dodgers scored only seven runs in losing two of three weekend games to the Houston Astros.

* Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.--Ramon Martinez (2-1, 2.31 ERA) vs. Todd Stottlemyre (0-1, 3.33 ERA).
