DWP Begins Project to Clear Water Mains

Share

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power will flush accumulated sediment from underground water mains in the southwest section of Van Nuys now through May 9, City Councilman Marvin Braude said.

Water service will not be interrupted in the area being flushed--which is bordered by Oxnard Street, Hazeltine Avenue, Magnolia Boulevard and the San Diego Freeway--however, water pressure will be reduced, he said.

“This project may cause temporarily dirty water, but in such cases water should clear in a few hours,” Braude said. “The DWP wants to assure Van Nuys residents that such a situation will not constitute a health risk.”

Immediately following flushing, DWP officials suggest that residents run their water taps for a few minutes until the water runs clear, Braude said.

If dirty water continues to flow 24 hours after the flushing, he said residents should call the DWP hotline at (213) 367-3182 during business hours. Residents can call (818) 771-3312 to find out when flushing will occur in their area, Braude said.
