And if the excitement of its climactic scenes of white-water rafting is not a surprise, the thrill of seeing Meryl Streep (pictured) give a rip-roaring performance is. “The River Wild,” crisply directed by Curtis Hanson, stars Streep as wife, mother and former white-water guide in a new kind of role that shows us what we’ve been missing: a radiant forcefulness (KNBC Sunday at 8:30 p.m.).
