Steinbrenner Still Wants to Move
Before the New York Yankees played the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, the team passed out a news release at Yankee Stadium that pointed out that, through Saturday, the club was last in attendance among the eight teams that made the 1996 playoffs.
New York owner George Steinbrenner has threatened to move the club out of the Bronx, using the club’s poor attendance as his chief reason.

Af the Yankee training facility at Tampa, Fla., New York pitcher Dwight Gooden threw off a mound for the first time since April 14 surgery to repair a hernia.

After Seattle pitcher Randy Johnson won his 15th consecutive decision with a 2-1 victory at Toronto, he got a visit from Geddy Lee, lead singer for the rock band Rush. Johnson signed a baseball for Lee and chatted for about five minutes.

Milwaukee designated pitcher Jamie McAndrew for assignment and recalled pitcher Sean Maloney from triple-A Tucson. McAndrew was 1-0 with a 6.75 earned-run average in four games, including three starts. Maloney was 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in eight games with Tucson.

Boston activated right-handed pitcher Rich Garces, who pitched a scoreless inning Sunday against Baltimore, and designated pitcher Pat Mahomes for assignment.
