Security Guard Shot to Death at Metrolink Station in Rialto

A private security guard patrolling a Metrolink rail station in Rialto was shot to death, his body discovered by passengers getting off a late-night commuter train, authorities said Tuesday.

The victim, Max McCloud Clark, 31, of Rubidoux, was discovered shot in the head and his handgun was missing, said Rialto Police Capt. Timm Browne.

His body was found on the platform boarding area by passengers getting off the train about 10 p.m. Monday. Nearby residents said they heard gunshots about 45 minutes earlier, Browne said.

The motive for the shooting was unknown, and there was no apparent vandalism to station equipment, including the automated ticket vending machines, said Browne and Metrolink spokesman Peter Hidalgo.

It was unknown Tuesday whether Clark was shot with his own weapon, Browne said.

The Rialto train station, one of 45 served by Metrolink in Southern California, is in a relatively well-lighted area near the town’s civic center. Each station is patrolled by a security guard.

Clark was employed by General Security Services Inc. of Ontario, which was contracted by the city to provide security at the train stop for passengers and their vehicles. The company declined comment.
