Cherokee Clothing Line to Be Marketed in Asia

Cherokee Inc. signed a licensing agreement with Kumkyung Co. Ltd. to market its Cherokee brand in South Korea.

Kumkyung is an apparel manufacturing company with plants in South Korea, China, Nicaragua and the U.S. The deal calls for Kumkyung to manufacture and sell women’s clothing and men’s shirts.

Cherokee said the deal is part of its plan to boost its presence in Asian markets. The company said its Cherokee licensed brands will be sold in Japan by spring 1998 and in South Korea the following fall.

Cherokee, based in Van Nuys, is a marketer of clothing and footwear.
