Downed wires and problems with an underground cable knocked out electrical power to more than 2,800 customers in Santa Monica on Wednesday afternoon, and officials said it probably would be sometime today before service is restored to about 350 of the homes and businesses.

Hansen said the area affected was bounded roughly by 15th Street, Washington Avenue, 16th Street and San Vicente Boulevard.
