Store Holdup Foiled as Clerk Runs Away

A Ventura convenience store clerk foiled an early morning robbery attempt Monday by running from an armed bandit and calling police.
At 3:14 a.m., a man in his early 20s entered the 7-Eleven store in the 6300 block of Bristol Road, pointed a handgun at the clerk and ordered him to open the cash register, said Ventura Police Officer Hiram Hernandez.
The clerk ran to the opposite end of the store, even as the gunman threatened to shoot, Hernandez said. The clerk was able to run from the store and call police.
By the time officers arrived, the suspect had fled the scene empty-handed, according to Hernandez.
