June 1

The Zodiac, led by Coach Tony Cerna, will find out whether its 2-1 victory over the previously undefeated California Jaguars last month started a trend or was just an anomaly. The Zodiac hosts the New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers at 5 p.m. at Santa Ana Stadium.

JUNE 6

Whatever you do, don’t call this ping-pong. The Meiklejohn National Seniors Table Tennis Tournament brings the nation’s best players to Laguna Hills Leisure World for this three-day event.

JUNE 7

The Bullfrogs open a leaner Roller Hockey International schedule at the Pond against St. Louis. The league will have only 15 teams, down three from last season.

JUNE 10

How will minor league baseball play in Orange County? The Vigilantes will find out as they return to Mission Viejo for their second homestand of the season. They face the Grays Harbor Gulls and the Tri-City Posse.

JUNE 12-13

Interleague play comes to Anaheim Stadium, with Tony Gwynn and the Padres facing the Angels. The Angels will play two-game series home and away against the teams in the National League West. On June 14-15, former Angel first baseman J.T. Snow returns to Orange County with the San Francisco Giants for a two-game series.

JUNE 17-18

There has never been a Freeway Series in October, but now there’s one in June. The Angels will play two games against Eric Karros and the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine.

JUNE 20

The Splash opens its indoor soccer season at the Pond against Portland. There will be a familiar face behind the bench, as longtime star player Dale Ervine takes over as player-coach. One familiar foe won’t return: the San Diego Sockers won’t be playing this season.

JUNE 30

The Angels get their first look at Coors Field in a series against the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have two prominent ex-Angels: Manager Don Baylor, who was the American League’s most valuable player in 1979, and outfielder Dante Bichette.
