Scholarship Dinner to Honor Latino Students

The Orange County Hispanic Education Endowment Fund will honor 16 outstanding Latino students at its annual scholarship awards dinner Monday.

The fund is administered by the Orange County Community Foundation, established in 1993 by local Latino leaders and community organizations to build an endowment for Latino students.

During the past four years, the group has raised nearly $500,000 toward its goal of $1 million, officials said.

The following students will receive scholarships of $500 to $1,000 Monday: Maria Agras of La Habra High; Andrea Alarcon of Brea Olinda High; Araceli Gonzalez of Saddleback High; Elden Krause of Magnolia High; Rachel Lorenzo of John F. Kennedy High; Maria Mendoza of McGeorge School of Law; Myra Mendoza of Tustin High; Elizabeth Moreno of Newport Harbor High; Oscar Olaguez of Santa Ana High; Augusto Partida of Los Amigos High; Nancy Reyes of Whittier School of Law; Oscar Rivas of Western State University School of Law; Ignacio Samano of Gilbert-South High; Mario Sanchez of Santa Ana High; Karla Santillan of Rancho Alamitos High; Johanna Soto of Century High.

Monday’s dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. at the University Club on the UC Irvine campus, 801 Los Trancos Court. The cost is $15.
