Tractor Clearing Brush Sparks Fire

Share

A tractor clearing brush next to a golf course sparked a fire Monday that burned about 60 acres and singed two oak trees before being doused by firefighters, authorities said.

The fire, with flames reaching 20 feet in the windy heat, started at about 1:28 p.m. at Redview Drive and Golden Valley Road, in hilly terrain south of Soledad Canyon Road, Los Angeles County fire officials said. The blaze was controlled at about 2:45 p.m.

A tractor operator said he had been clearing grass and brush when one of the vehicle’s cutting blades apparently struck sparks from a rock, Capt. Michael Flocks said.

No structures were threatened by the fire. There were no reports of injuries, Chavez said. He said the fire swept by two large oak trees, charring but probably not seriously damaging them.
