Update / Follow-up on the news
Home Depot has received city approval to build a new, larger store at Gramercy Avenue and Brookhurst Street.
The store is moving from nearby Lincoln Avenue to the 9 1/2-acre-site, which is within the Brookhurst redevelopment area. The project includes a 105,984-square-foot home improvement sales building and a nearly 25,000-square-foot garden center.
City officials said the project will improve the area as well as generate from $350,000 to $400,000 a year in sales taxes for the city.
City Council members said they’d like Home Depot to consider how to prevent day laborers, who have gathered at the old store, from congregating at the new site.
